Man longs for something that he can barely conceive. He's willing to risk his time, talents, and wellbeing for merely a concept of what he could possibly reach. And what catalyzes man's effort, what justifies this risk? What is the object of his devotion and attention? The feminine, mystery.
Man looks at the moon and longs to walk on the dark side. Man looks at the birds in the sky and longs to fly faster and further than they can. Man looks at the swells of the sea and longs to breathe underwater. Nature’s offspring carry parts of the Mother's mystery. That is what animates man and activates his ambition, which is by default latent. Until man discovers a worthy mystery, he is lame and aimless. Then when he meets her, man convinces himself that the mystery beckons him, but she is in fact not beckoning, simply being.
And where must he go to pursue her? Into the unknown. He must launch into space, leap from a high place, hold his breath underwater. Man knows nothing about the nectar of life except that it will not fall unto him naturally, like fruit from a tree; he knows that the nectar's in the knothole. Man must reach into darkness, not knowing what the mystery holds for him, because that's what She made him to do.
